Lysacek, who became the first American in 22 years to take home gold in men's figure skating last week (although not without controversy), confirms to People magazine that he's been dating Liukin, who won gold in Beijing two years ago.
They met not long after the Beijing games, when they performed on NBC's Skating & Gymnastics Spectacular, but they didn't start dating until last summer, when they attended the ESPYs together, Lysacek says.
She and her husband, Arthur Becker, had been together 23 years – through Vera’s rise from little-known designer to one of the most reliable American fashion houses out there.
Liukin and Lysacek have been spotted party-hopping around Vancouver since Thursday night, when Lysacek soared past Evgeni Plushenko to win the gold.
"To see his dreams come true was amazing," Liukin says.
"We both know what it takes to try for the ultimate dream of being an Olympic champion," she told the magazine. He also just told Entertainment Tonight correspondent Nancy Kerrigan (?) that he's single and that he and Liukin are "very close friends." Actually dating: Olympic gold medalists Evan Lysacek, 24, and Nastia Liukin, 20, People reports.
Olympics geeks already knew the newly crowned men's figure skating champ and the gymnast had attended some red-carpet thing together, but now we know that was a date.
